Dear 6th Grade Families,

In ELA, scholars are working on their final project for our research unit, and will be creating both a write-up and a presentation of a self-developed research question supported by credible sources. The ELA finals will be on May 28th. It will cover strategies and skills that we have learned throughout the year.

We will be learning about Statistics and how to display and interpret data. We will then move on to reviewing what we have learned this year in preparation for the final exam. The final will take place on June 5th.

Science - Ms. Acevedo - yacevedo@motthall2.org

6R/6B - Ms. Alalouf - malalouf@motthall2.org

In Science we are currently learning about Biodiversity and the food chain. We are learning to create concept maps to organize and relate our thinking. We will be going on a trip to the Bronx Zoo to reinforce these topics. We will also begin to start reviewing for our cumulative Science final on June 3rd.

Social Studies - Ms. Breach - lbreach@motthall2.org

6R/6B - Ms. Nam - knam@motthall2.org

We are finishing our unit on Ancient Rome.  We will end our unit with an exploration of their theories on what caused the fall of Rome.  Study guides will be given out this week and we will spend two classes working on study skills.  The final will take place on May 30th.

End of Year Trip to High Exposure

The 6th grade will be going on an end of year trip to High Exposure, a fun, team building facility in Northvale, NJ.  Students will participate in rock climbing and many other fun activities.

Last week we handed out our behavior expectations for this wonderful trip.  If you child hasn't given you the copy yet, please ask them for this so you can sign it.  The permission slip and waiver with details about the trip will be sent home at a later this month.

Students will be required to maintain an average of 85 on their weekly class performance grades from now until the trip.  As the reports are handed out in advisory each Monday, you will be able to track your child's progress.

Reminders & Suggestions

  • Check your scholar’s PupilPath account for missing assignments and remind them to check regularly on their own. Missing assignments will be accepted up to ten (10) school days after they are due for partial credit. Math assignments will only be accepted the following day. Turning in missing work is much better than receiving a 0. If your scholar loses their password they can get it from Ms. Robbins.
  • Please make sure your child returns their signed classroom performance reports to their Advisory teacher
  • Scholars are required to bring in an independent reading book to school every day!  This is important! Scholars have reading after lunch multiple times a week. Reading Explorations is a graded course - students will be receiving a grade based off preparedness, arriving on time, and being on task. They are usually required to read the independent reading book during this period.  Please have them come to school prepared and on time.

Sincerely,

6th Grade Team (Acevedo, Alalouf, Breach, Nam, Tapada, Yang)
